Beat The Heat

Updated: Dec 8

Never fear, the guide to staying cool this summer is here!

Welcome to Summer 2025: Beat the Heat!

Once again, we find ourselves soaking up the sun and enjoying our favorite pastime together. Whether you're indoors with the air conditioning blasting or outside, it can get really hot! This racing season, when you're not comfortably inside, sweating buckets is a real threat. But fear not! I've compiled the ultimate beginner's guide to keep you and your little racers as cool as cucumbers. Let’s dive in!

With Heat Comes Sweat

Everyone knows that sweating is your body's natural way of regulating temperature. It’s great if you want to continue enjoying the outdoors! However, the downside is that sweat often leads to an oily face, drenched t-shirts, and awkward handshakes. All these can ruin your day!

Track Wife Tip 1:

Keep some oil-absorbing sheets handy. These can help keep your T-zone clear of sweat and may prevent breakouts. You can find them at any major retailer!

Track Wife Tip 2:

What about those sweaty pits or privates? Use undergarment pads! They can protect against embarrassing pit stains and the pesky "swamp butt" that can occur!

With Sweat Comes Smell

Have you ever wondered why sweat has a foul odor? Why can't it smell like lavender or eucalyptus? Instead, you find yourself in a panic looking for deodorant!

Track Wife Tip 3:

Instead of just regular deodorant (still use one each morning), opt for an antiperspirant. Brands like Certain Dri or Dove Clinical contain aluminum salts, which prevent sweat from forming and creating that unwanted odor.

Keeping the Littles Cool

We definitely don’t want our little ones to suffer this summer! Hot track days can bring out the worst behaviors in both kids and adults. If we can help anyone stay in a positive mood, it's the kiddos!

Strategies to Cool Down:

Clip-on fans, cooling neck towels, and SPF 55 sunscreen can save the day. Don't forget to have plenty of water and shade available!

Track Wife Tip 4:

If your family hates drinking plain water, keep a mini caddy of flavor packets. This way, everyone can stay hydrated while enjoying their favorite "juice." Wink-wink!

Track Wife Tip 5:

You can create a $30 DIY air conditioner. Simply wet a cooling towel, freeze it, and then place it over the back of a box fan. This will chill the tent, canopy, or trailer for you and your racer throughout the day.

Looking Cool While Staying Comfortable

One of the perks of beating the heat is being able to sport accessories that make you feel as fierce as that midday sun! From sunglasses to flowy skirts, a stylish outfit can help you feel fresh and breezy. This way, you can support your family and friends while staying comfortable.

Track Wife Tip 6:

Chafing is very real for both men and women during hot weather! To prevent this, consider investing in:

  • Gold Bond Friction Defense Sticks: These can be applied anywhere on the body.

  • Lace or Elastic Thigh Guards: Perfect for plus-size riders and spectators.

  • Lightweight Under Suits: Ideal for those thick leather race suits. Remember, hot leather against sweaty skin is not enjoyable!

Final Thoughts: You've Got This!

With these tips and tricks, you can tackle the summer heat and keep your family cool while you cheer on your racers. Stay hydrated, stay stylish, and most importantly, have fun!
